Vacuum handling for loads up to 2,000 kg

06.04.2009

Vacuum handling systems have become an essential part of material, device and packaging handling in modern production and distribution processes. Vacuum specialist J. Schmalz GmbH offers two different product lines: vacuum tube lifters Jumbo and vacuum lifting devices VacuMaster. But that’s not all: Schmalz also configures, supplies and installs complete handling and material flow solutions that centre around aluminium cranes and slewing cranes to pick up and transport (or position) the vacuum handling systems. In addition, Schmalz offers project leadership services for rationalisation projects, assumes overall responsibility for the project and takes care of maintenance and service.

Rationalisation component: vacuum tube lifter JumboFlex

A vacuum tube lifter JumboFlex for the ergonomic handling of cardboard boxes weighing up to 35 kg

The vacuum tube lifter JumboFlex rounds out the lower range of vacuum tube lifters for small to medium-sized loads. The new JumboFlex is ideal for fast, ergonomic handling of goods of all kinds up to a weight of either 20 kg or 35 kg. The compact device can be adapted for crane systems, column-mounted and wall-mounted slewing cranes and can therefore be used almost anywhere it is needed. Besides, it is as mobile as the size of the crane system’s work area allows it to be. The vacuum tube lifter JumboFlex is designed and equipped to be operated using one hand. Depending on the requirements, it can be used with an electric vacuum pump or a compressed-air powered multi-stage ejector for vacuum generation. The device features a lift speed of between 50 or 60 m/mm and is available with lifting tube diameters of 80 or 100 mm, depending on the size of the load to be transported. With a total height of 2,500 mm, the JumboFlex vacuum tube lifter offers lifting heights of 1,500 mm or 1,800 mm, enabling it to be used in combination with a small aluminium crane system in relatively low areas of around 3,000 mm. The JumboFlex can be equipped with either a variety of vacuum suction pads or mechanical grippers that have been adapted to the transport goods. In either case, the JumboFlex is a flexible, economic and universally deployable rationalisation component.

Rationalisation component: vacuum lifting device VacuMaster Comfort

A vacuum lifting device VacuMaster Comfort for safely transporting and swivelling heavy metal casing parts by 90°

Vacuum lifting devices VacuMaster are the ideal tools for handling sheet metals, glass sheets, wood and plastic sheets, and many other workpieces weighing up to 2,000 kg. The vacuum lifting device grips the workpiece, which is then securely raised and transported using a crane. The VacuMaster series bases on a modular building-block system, meaning that individual handling solutions can be realised if required. The basis modules can be supplied with various vacuum generators. A selection of different ergonomically designed operator handles is also available. Furthermore, a variety of standard and special vacuum suction pads, and both longitudinal and lateral cross arms for holding the suction pads. Schmalz offers two versions of vacuum lifting devices: VacuMaster Basic and VacuMaster Comfort. The VacuMaster Comfort comes with a number of additional features not present in the basic model, such as hoist chain control integrated into the controller and “pushbutton vacuum generation”. In addition, an electromagnetic valve for the two-hand-vacuum-off function offers even better safety when handling workpieces. Both VacuMaster models are available in the “horizontal”, “90° swivel” and “180° turn” designs. For this reason, there are also differences in the allowable loads that each model and design may carry.

Better material flow with aluminium slewing cranes and crane systems

For complete material flow and handling solutions from a single supplier, Schmalz offers a range of its own aluminium crane systems and slewing cranes that are both flexible in their application and very easy to move. The idea is to achieve the optimum relationship between structure and weight on the one hand, and load and working area on the other: a crane with a rail length of 3,000 mm offers a travel path of 3,000 mm. In addition, multiple load carriers can be installed in one crane track when needed, so that, in practice, one crane system can fulfil many tasks. The aluminium crane systems are available in single-beam, double-beam and monorail versions. The aluminium crane systems can cover working areas up to approx. 8 x 30 m and are suitable for loads up to approx. 700 kg. Column-mounted slewing cranes have a swivelling range of 270° and are either anchored firmly in the floor or mounted on a moveable steel plate, which makes them mobile. Wall-mounted slewing cranes make for a cost-effective solution when a solid wall or shop pillar, onto which the crane can be easily mounted, is already available. The maximum swivelling range for these cranes is 180°. Aluminium slewing cranes are suited for loads up to 650 kg, depending on the jib length, which can be up to 6 m.
