Energy Efficiency with Vacuum Technology: The FXC-HD Large-Area Gripping System

The FXC-HD large-area gripping system facilitates energy-saving and cost-efficient automation.

In order to prove the efficiency of the FXC-HD large-area gripping system, we compared it to a conventional vacuum gripping system. For a market standard large-area gripping system, it takes 0.5 seconds to evacuate and blow-off each workpiece. Transportation of the workpiece with a transport time of 3 seconds (without suction) requires compressed air consumption over a period of 4 seconds. The energy consumption-optimised FXC-HD gripping system has a small main body with a small evacuation volume. Because the chambers for the suction and blow-off functions are separate, items can be set down quickly. The FXC-HD requires only 0.3 seconds to create a vacuum and blow-off the workpiece. To transport the workpiece for the same transport time of 3 seconds, the Schmalz large-area gripping system requires only 3.6 seconds instead of 4 seconds per compressed air cycle.

Noticeable reduction of annual operating costs, better for the environment

Compared with the conventional system, the FXC-HD gripping system saves 4.45 litres of compressed air per cycle. That is around 6,285 litres per year. If the average cost of compressed air is EUR 0.05/m³, the user can save nearly EUR 315 (10 %) on annual operating costs. For an emission value of 0.033 kg CO2 per 1 m³ of compressed air, the user can reduce annual CO2 emissions by 10 %. The amount of CO2 would fall from around 2,074 kg to around 1,877 kg.
