J. Schmalz GmbH is one of Germany’s best employers
- In 2009, J. Schmalz GmbH is once again ranked among "Germany's Best Employers".
This week, the “Great Place to Work® Institute Deutschland” published the rankings for “Germany's Best Employers” of 2009. J. Schmalz GmbH, with its 451 employees located throughout Germany, earned an excellent ranking among the Top 50 in the category for “companies with 50-500 employees”. In the overall field of participants, and therefore in comparison to well-known “large companies with more than 5,000 employees” and companies with “501 to 5,000 employees”, the company in Glatten occupies a respectable position in the top 100. This is the second time since 2004 that Schmalz has achieved an above-average placing in the competition.
A total of 257 companies of all sizes and from all sectors and regions were subject to an independent evaluation of their quality and attractiveness as employers. The evaluation of the participating companies and their management was performed by taking an anonymous survey of employees about “credibility”, “respect”, “fairness”, “pride”, and “team orientation”, and an additional culture audit with the persons responsible for personnel. In the process, the results were weighted at a ratio of 2:1, meaning the assessments of the employees were more important.
In the scope of this year’s competition, the Great Place to Work® Institute Deutschland surveyed more than 56,000 employees about central workplace topics. Specifically, they asked 50 questions on the subject of “leadership”, “teamwork”, “professional development”, “pay” and “general satisfaction with the workplace”, and the results were evaluated. The “quality of measures and programmes in the area of personnel” was also exhaustively researched for each participating company.
Participating in the study and competition allows the Schmalz company to simultaneously examine the employees’ views regarding the quality and attractiveness of their jobs , and to systematically enhance them.
With its excellent placing in this year’s competition, J. Schmalz GmbH adds to a series of awards and prizes that they have already received for sustainable and social entrepreneurship. These include winning the “European Solar Prize” for 2007, the “German Prize for Business Ethics” in 2005, and the “Ecological Manager” prize for 2004.
