Schmalz presents a wide range of apprenticeships

On Saturday 11 July 2009, the sixth Job Information Day was, in the buildings of J. Schmalz GmbH. Nearly 300 schoolchildren and their parents took this opportunity to learnmore about the different apprenticeships and study programs offered by Schmalz. Schmalz offers 15 different apprenticeships in the commercial and industrial area. These include five study programs which are offered in cooperation with cooperative state universities in Baden-Württemberg.

A detailed presentation of the company followed by a guided tour allowed the visitors to get a first impression and to see the various parts of the company – everything from the trainee workshops to the company's own showroom, where various experiments with the Schmalz products were demonstrated. After that the students could test the Schmalz products by their own. They moved various work pieces like bags or cartons. In direct discussions with the Schmalz trainees and their teachers, the visitors were able to obtain information about the various courses. With some presentations of the trainees about their time abroad and the training courses until the bachelor they informed the visitors about the experiences they have made. The workshop "Basic metal.-working" allowed interested persons with basic skills to manufacture their own memo holders and key fobs. In addition the visitors could mill their names in pens. The day was rounded out with the "Schmalz Quiz", with attractive prizes, and finally cakes, coffee and soft drinks.

Currently Schmalz employes 49 trainees. With 21 new trainees who will start their apprenticeship in September the J. Schmalz GmbH has the highest apprenticeship quote in the region. The proportion of trainees in the workforce in this year is 11 percent.
