Schmalz Ecological Guided Tour is Location of the Year
16.10.2009
The Schmalz ecological guided tour is one of the prize winners in the national innovation competition “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”. The series of events were carried out by the initiative "Germany – Land of Ideas" in cooperation with Deutsche Bank. Under the patronage of Germany’s Federal President Horst Köhler, the competition recognises locations where sustainable ideas are developed, supported and actively put into practice.
Schmalz invited representatives from the initiative as well as municipal representatives to the presentation ceremony on 13 October 2009. The award was presented by Bernhard Kunsmann from Deutsche Bank. After a speech from Wolfgang Schmalz, the guests were led together through the ecological guided tour. In the round of discussion that followed, Dr. Kurt Schmalz answered questions from the participants.
The Schmalz ecological guided tour was created in 2003 with the goal of using examples of concrete measures to convey to the participants an understanding of conservative and sustainable interaction with nature. Over 650 visitors every year use the opportunity to visit the 19 different stations and inform themselves about renewable energy generation, resource conservation and industrial environmental protection.
“The ecological guided tour project is unique in Germany,” Bernhard Kunsmann emphasised in his speech in honor of Schmalz. “It combines know-how, ecological responsibility and sustainability using concrete examples and makes knowledge about energy and resource consumption accessible to a wider audience.”
