Schmalz Inaugurates New Production Facility

At company headquarters in Glatten, J. Schmalz GmbH has begun operations at their new production facility, which was only under construction for a single year. The 16.3 million euro project was inaugurated on 10 December 2009 in the company of more than 170 guests including representitives from the political arena, associations, institutions, companies from the region and also from the companies involved in the construction.
Managing Directors Dr. Kurt Schmalz and Wolfgang Schmalz highlighted the meaning of the building for the company in their speeches and justified their decision to carry forward with the construction in economically difficult times with the desire to ermerge from the crisis stronger than they were going in.

District Administrator Peter Dombrowsky was impressed by how innovative and dynamic the company was and praised the charm that the family-run company has managed to preserve with its commendable company philosophy. Above all, Glatten’s mayor, Tore-Derek, sees the new facility as vote of confidence in the region. Schmalz is proving that it is possible in Germany to conduct business in a manner that is both successful and sustainable – even in the rural Black Forest. Even Burkhard Thost, President of the The Chamber of Industry and Commerce Northern Black Forest, said that Schmalz was an example for the region with its efforts in the area of ecology. After Thilo Bauer, the construction manager, went through the planning and construction phases again from start to finish, he thanked the company involved in the construction for the close collaboration. Architect Mattias Schneider then made the symbolic gesture of presenting the key to the new building.

The guests had a chance to tour the new facility and to see for themselves how Schmalz has managed to combine ecological thinking with modern technology. Examples of this include the fully automated warehouse for small parts that feeds energy generated from braking back into the electrical grid as well as the shed roof for northern light, which provides optimum light levels and serves as the substructure for additional photovoltaic modules. The event was accompanied by the energetic saxophone quartette “Balanced Action”. By the way, the next Schmalz event isn’t too far off. In the summer of 2010, the company will invite many guests to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding. The public will then also have a chance to view the new building.
