The "Auto und Technik Museum Sinsheim" has recently been equipped with vacuum technology made by Schmalz. This can be seen at the exhibit "The world's first robot shop", a fully automated shop selling gifts and mementos.
In this shop, the visitors are served by a KUKA industrial robot, and can purchase such things as CDs, DVDs, books, puzzles, medals or T-shirts.
And this is how it works: the visitor selects the desired article and pays for it. The industrial robot then receives orders to fetch the desired article from its storage location and place it on a conveyor belt, which then transports it to the visitor.
The CDs, DVDs, books and puzzles are gripped and handled with the aid of a vacuum spider equipped with Schmalz suction pads.
The laser-engraving of medals also makes use of a Schmalz product, so-called "magnetic grippers" hold the medals while they are being engraved.
We are very happy that this exhibit permits us to show the applications of our products to so many people – more than 1,000,000 persons visit the museum each year.
