Though 15,000 runners initially registered to take part in the Stuttgarter Zeitung's half-marathon, daytime temperatures of up to 33°C on 21 and 22 June meant that "only" 12,400 brave souls set off on the race. Overall, there were 8 competitions for runners, walkers, inline skaters and hand-cyclists, and a total of 23,600 people reached the various finishing lines tired but happy, while 180,000 enthusiastic spectators added to the atmosphere in and around the stadium over the weekend. Schmalz was present again this year with a team of 13 sporty members of staff.
Representing Schmalz in the inline half-marathon were Danilo Butz and Dennis Kilb, while Michael Schlaich, Matthias Beschorner, Rajko Just, Ralf Moser, Jochen Rometsch and Udo Weißner took part in the runners' half-marathon. Sandra Webster, Corinna Kurz, Stefanie Hrastic and Simone Göricke were our participants in the 8-kilometre run, and Karl-Heinz Brandt braved the heat to complete the 8-kilometre walk.
Just as in previous years, the 2008 Stuttgarter Zeitung run was a resounding success, and people are already beginning to look forward to the coming year when the sports event will take place for the 17th time. It goes without saying that Schmalz will be there again!
