With a population of 4.72 million, Melbourne is Australia’s second largest city after Sydney. Melbourne is the capital city of the Australian state of Victoria and is one of the most important economic, cultural, and political centers of the island continent. The city is located 14 meters above sea level, directly on the Yarra River in the south-east of the country.

Melbourne also hosts the Australian Open, the world-renowned Grand Slam tennis tournament.
