Raleigh is the capital of the state of North Carolina. Raleigh is known for its oak trees. With a population of 385,507 it is the second most populous city in North Carolina and it is the fastest growing metropolitan area in the US.

Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill make up the three historical cities of the Research Triangle metropolitan region. The regional nickname of "The Triangle" originated after the 1959 creation of the Research Triangle Park, located between the cities of Raleigh and Durham.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport serves the city and greater Research Triangle metropolitan region, as well as much of eastern North Carolina.
