The logisticians at VW mounted an extensive scouting campaign looking for interesting novelties. They defined a set of subject areas corresponding to upcoming future challenges, such as digitization and Big Data, autonomous systems, and demographic change. At its information booth at the 2016 Volkswagen Logistics Innovation Day in Wolfsburg, Schmalz presented fresh new approaches in ergonomic handling solutions that enable longer, fatigue-free working. Such systems are Schmalz's way of supporting its customers in coping with demographic change.

Schmalz presented its projects to 250 logistics decision-makers from all different brands and plants of the company. The presentation was met with great interest, and now Schmalz may officially style itself "Top Innovator of the 2016 Volkswagen Logistics Day." Last year saw the eleventh iteration of this event, which serves as an important platform for forward-looking solutions in various areas of logistics.
