Schmalz at the Battery Show Europe: Produce more efficiently

Clever vacuum solutions for the energy industry - from magnetic grippers for round cells to dynamic compact ejectors and safe area grippers. At the Battery Show Europe (June 3-5, Stuttgart) in Hall 8, Booth A37, Schmalz will be demonstrating that innovative vacuum technology is the key to maximum efficiency in modern battery production.

Whether cell production or module assembly - the magnetic gripper SGM-SV-BY always does a good job.

Vacuum enables precise handling of battery cells with high reproducibility. Gripping systems and vacuum generators support the production processes and increase efficiency. One example: The magnetic gripper SGM-SV-BY from Schmalz moves charged and uncharged round cells with a diameter of 46 millimeters. It grips them either at the top or the bottom. The SGM is equally suitable for cell production and module assembly. Its high holding force makes the handling of round cells reliable, even in fast pick-and-place processes. It can be positioned precisely thanks to the guide grooves. Schmalz uses gripping elements made of insulating plastics - this prevents short circuits.

The spring plunger FSTImc grips sensitive workpieces such as battery foils with process reliability thanks to the very soft damping spring. It also compensates for uneven component heights and curvatures - without the need for additional control technology. When handling components of different sizes, the use of integrated check valves is recommended in order to safely close unused suction points. In the case of porous workpieces, flow restrictors that can be integrated accordingly take over this function. This allows users to achieve maximum flexibility with minimum installation space. Thanks to its compact design, the spring plunger also fits into confined production environments and its design protects it from dirt and mechanical influences. A vacuum-guiding profile or a rigid hose connection for load-free movement supply it with vacuum.

The area gripper FLGR moves metal and graphite bipolar plates in a fast cycle. At the booth, it uses a robot to precisely stack membrane electrode units and bipolar plates - a key step in the production of fuel cells. To do this, it precisely orients the components without damaging the sensitive surfaces.

Compact ejectors provide vacuum at the right place. They are easy to integrate into automated systems and save space. Thanks to their low weight, the SCPSb BY / SCPSc BY / SCPSi BY series is equally suitable for moving robot arms and linear axes. Users can thus implement dynamic pick-and-place applications with very short cycle times, for example in fully automated small parts handling. The highlight of the series is that it contains hardly any copper, nickel and zinc, as these elements can make the batteries unusable. Thanks to the integrated eco nozzle technology and the air saving function, the ejectors are highly efficient.

The spring plungers FSTImc are also available with integrated flow restrictors and check valves.

With a high flow rate, the area gripper FLGR grips sensitive workpieces such as bipolar plates over their entire surface.
