How can digital design, flexible gripping systems and ergonomic handling solutions make sheet metal processing more efficient? Answers to these questions can be found at Blechexpo (October 21 to 24, Stuttgart) in Hall 1 at Stand 1110 at vacuum specialist Schmalz.

From October 8 to 15, Schmalz will be exhibiting its vacuum solutions at the world's largest plastics trade show, K in Düsseldorf (Hall 12, Booth A 35). Gripping and lifting - but flexible, economical and powerful, please. Schmalz will be showing what modern automation can look like at FACHPACK (September 23-25, Nuremberg) in Hall 7, Booth 571: With smart components that pack food products just as safely as cardboard boxes. And with handling systems that can be converted in no time at all.

The challenge: staff shortages. The goal: Increasing productivity. The solution: Solution Kit ivOS Sheet Metal. This loading and unloading system from Schmalz uses artificial intelligence, 3D vision sensors and a flexible area gripper to recognize and move different workpieces. Machine manufacturer LISSMAC has thus significantly increased its performance.

At the end of the multi-day sales conference, the traditional summer party was held at Schmalz in Glatten on July 11. In bright sunshine, about 500 employees from all areas of the company came together for relaxed conversations in a good atmosphere on the company site.

Improving efficiency is a central research topic - for example in vacuum technology. Schmalz continuously optimizes its systems and looks beyond the horizon when developing them. A current project is focusing on the suction organs of leeches.

The handling of food products is considered demanding: soft, slippery and sensitive products in varying sizes are a challenge for automated processes. Take sandwiches, for example. At automatica in Munich, robot specialist FANUC and vacuum expert Schmalz, together with partners Bizerba, Kilivations and ViscoTec, will be showcasing a practical solution in which a robot with flexible finger grippers, rather than a human, takes over.

In order to achieve the balancing act between furniture customization and efficiency, woodworking operations need creative solutions that fully exploit the advantages of automation from batch size 1. With the Solution Kit ivOS Wood, Schmalz offers them a smart system that automatically recognizes, picks up and places unknown workpieces.

Friday saw the starting signal for the construction of Schmalz's new photovoltaic plant. The about five-hectare photovoltaic park on a hillside site opposite the company premises in Glatten is due to be completed this year - and will supply enough energy for Schmalz to become a "positive energy company" once again.

Lots of visitors, exciting insights and lively interest: Last week's Careers Information Day (BIT) was once again a complete success for Schmalz. Over 150 guests came to find out about the wide range of training paths and career opportunities. Individual job advice was particularly popular.

Automated handling is becoming more flexible, faster and more intelligent: At automatica (June 24-27, Munich), Schmalz will be presenting new gripping systems and vacuum generators in Hall A5 at Stand 301. Exoskeletons will also be on display, which enable workers to move heavy workpieces effortlessly.
