Black Forest technology for Scandinavia
Schmalz redox flow battery stacks are electrochemical conversion units for energy storage in large-scale stationary batteries.
Redox flow batteries are ideal intermediate storage units for sustainably generated electricity. Their performance and efficiency depend crucially on the stacks used. These electrochemical energy converters are the "heart" of a redox flow battery system; the charging or discharging of the electrolyte takes place in them. "Over the past five years, we have intensively tested stacks from different suppliers around the world," explains Søren Bødker, CEO of VisBlue A/S. "Now we have chosen the converter unit from Schmalz because of the high quality and the very positive test results." With a framework supply agreement, the Danish battery manufacturer VisBlue has now secured exclusive use of the components for its redox flow battery systems in Scandinavia. The agreement gives both partners a good position in the Northern European market for flow batteries. "We are very proud that the quality of our stacks could convince VisBlue and we are looking forward to a good and successful cooperation," says Dr. Kurt Schmalz, Managing Director of J. Schmalz GmbH.
The stack - the heart of the redox flow battery
Redox flow batteries use liquid media to store electrical energy electrochemically. The system is flexibly scalable in its output via the number of stacks and in its capacity via the electrolyte volume. The core component is the stack - it is responsible for the efficient conversion of the energy. Schmalz recognized the synergies in the handling of stacks and battery components with vacuum technology more than six years ago and uses its know-how to develop and manufacture the converter units for stationary energy storage systems.
