Boost for renewable energy use: Battery cell expert Schmalz and storage specialist VoltStorage collaborate
The design of a VoltStorage reservoir, equipped with the stacks from Schmalz.
Vanadium redox flow batteries from VoltStorage are efficient reservoirs for large amounts of regeneratively generated energy. The promising solution needs no rare-earth elements, is easily scalable and knows no memory effect. It is also safe and extremely durable. In order for the battery to do what it needs to do - namely absorb and release electricity - an electrochemical converter is required. This stack converts chemical energy into electrical energy and vice versa.
When two fit together
VoltStorage offers storage batteries based on vanadium redox flow technology, designed for commercial and industrial use. For the central component of this storage solution, the company wanted to use only the best components on the market. The choice fell on the redox flow battery stacks from Schmalz. The automation expert not only supports users in the handling of battery cells, but also has the corresponding know-how in the development and manufacture of stacks for redox flow battery systems in-house. "Our many years of expertise in manufacturing systems, plastics and handling technology enable us to deliver first-class quality. This is also confirmed by our customers," emphasizes Dr. Kurt Schmalz, Managing Partner of J. Schmalz GmbH.
And because everything is right, the two partners have now decided to supply Schmalz battery stacks for the VoltStorage VDIUM C50 commercial storage system. With this combination, VoltStorage can achieve the best cost-benefit ratio. In addition, the stacks developed by Schmalz fit the requirements perfectly in terms of line density, cycle life, scalability and maintenance effort. "We wanted a reliable and efficient partner that manufactures in Germany - we found it in Schmalz," explains Verena Graf, COO at VoltStorage. "We can now use our many years of expertise to optimize the interaction of the stack with the other components of the product unit and thus minimize the maintenance effort," Graf supplements.
VoltStorage plans to introduce the new reservoir to the market at the end of the year.
