Flexible clamping during machining: Update of the Schmalz Matrix-Plate MPL
Holds workpieces with low stress and vibration and maximum force: The optimised grid vacuum-plate MPL.
At present, vacuum clamping systems are still rarely found in CNC machining centres. Nevertheless, this technology has its raison d'être in the machining of metals and plastics: Machinists rely on vacuum when they want to fix thin-walled or soft workpieces on the machine table with low stress and vibration. Damage and distortion of the workpiece by the clamping device are thus excluded. For this purpose, J. Schmalz GmbH has a grid vacuum plate with external vacuum generation in its product range, with which users can machine materials such as aluminium, plastic or other non-ferrous metals.
Maximum vacuum on the workpiece
Now Schmalz has significantly improved its matrix-plate: thanks to the new vacuum connection set, the optimised vacuum distribution in the plate as well as additional vacuum openings, the complete suction power reaches where it is needed. As a result, the workpiece holds with maximum force. A pressure gauge shows the vacuum value directly on the matrix-plate, thus providing reliable information about the existing clamping force and increasing safety during the machining process. The basic equipment of the matrix-plate is completed by a manual slide valve for activating and deactivating the vacuum directly on the clamping device. The patented friction islands for better lateral force absorption are still available.
The grid vacuum-plate has a modular design so that the user can expand the clamping system at any time with the likewise optimised Innospann-Steel-Plate ISST as well as components such as the ISBL vacuum block or the FlexMat SFM. This gives him the option of easily adapting the clamping surface, frictional forces or the accessibility of the workpiece without expensive devices. Optional magnetic plugs close unused vacuum openings of the Steel-Plate when using the suction blocks or the FlexMat elastomer mat.
The 28 millimetre high matrix-plate is made of high-strength aluminium. Schmalz now supplies it in two grid versions (12.5 x 12.5 millimetres or 25 x 25 millimetres) as well as in three sizes: 300 x 200 millimetres, 400 x 300 millimetres or 600 x 400 millimetres. The user has several options for mounting the MPL grid plate on the machine table of his CNC machining centre: The thread on the underside enables the mounting of clamping bolts for direct use on common zero-point clamping systems. In addition, fixing by means of clamps on T-slot tables or directly in clamping blocks is possible.
