Generate vacuum yourself

Using a power connection or compressed air connection, it is possible to generate a vacuum. A distinction is made between electrical and pneumatic vacuum generation.

Pneumatic Vacuum Generators

If you want to generate a vacuum using compressed air, you need an ejector. An ejector has one or more Venturi nozzles. For vacuum generation, compressed air is fed through connection (A) into the nozzle (B). The compressed air is compressed during this process. In the adjacent chamber, the air can expand again, which generates a vacuum. This causes air to be sucked into the ejector through the vacuum connection (D). Air and compressed air escape via the silencer (C).

Schmalz offers a large number of vacuum ejectors that can be used to generate a vacuum. Ejector modules with eco nozzle technology generate a vacuum in a very efficient manner and are particularly suitable for the packaging industry in which high suction capacities are required. Basic ejectors generate a high vacuum but do not have valve control or system monitoring. Compact ejectors have both integrated valve technology and suitable system monitoring. Depending on the design, compact ejectors with IO-Link technology are also available. These are better suited to fully automated handling systems, such as those found in the automotive industry.

Electrical Vacuum Generation

If there is no compressed air connection, you can also generate a vacuum using a pump or a blower. When selecting a suitable vacuum generator, you should first consider whether you need a high vacuum level or a high suction rate. Vacuum blowers are characterized by a very high suction rate, for example. As a result, they are particularly suited to handling processes in which air-permeable workpieces such as particle boards or cardboard boxes are to be handled. For lifting operations that require a high vacuum level, we recommend vacuum pumps. Vacuum pumps are therefore often used in vacuum handling systems. Vacuum pumps are available in various designs: In addition to dry-running pumps and oil-lubricated pumps, there are also water-ring pumps that are particularly suitable for use in the food industry.
